Description
(TRAVEL). 39 volumes of the *Journal of Travels and Adventures on Land and Sea*, 1877–1914. Two copies from the year 1914 (one of which has a small split in the spine), two semesters per large quarto volumes (33x24 cm), red percaline cloth binding decorated with special gold and black metalwork, animals, a ship within a frame of marine anchors, plain decorated spine (faded), gilt edges. Until 1915, four editors and managers succeeded one another; publication was suspended from August 1914 to March 1915 and resumed in 1924. The first colour-printed page appeared in 1895 and, more notably, from 1906 onwards. Numerous illustrations both within and outside the text (few foxing spots). An important journal in which travel accounts form the bulk of the content. Binding by Engel and plate by Souze.
