Description
Bestiarium. Facsimile of the Ashmole 1511 bestiary manuscript, held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, accompanied by commentary by Xénia Muratova and Daniel Poirion and a French translation by Marie-France Dupuis and Sylvain Louis. Paris, Club du Livre, 1984. 2 vols. In-4°. The facsimile is bound in fawn sheepskin, with a spine featuring six blind-stamped false ribs, a gilt title, the upper cover decorated in brown and black against a background of interlacing gold lines at the intersections, featuring an embossed leather design depicting a griffin within a bestiary mandorla and foliage, with a brown cloth slipcase edged in fawn sheepskin; the study book on the manuscript (156 pp.) is bound in half fawn sheepskin, with a smooth spine and gilt title, and comes with a brown canvas slipcase (Jean Ardouin).
The commentary volume is followed by ‘Studies for a Bestiary’: 11 pages of original drawings by Luben DIMANOV.
