FENELON. The Adventures of Telemachus, followed by the Adventures of Aristonous, preceded by an Essay on the Life and Works of Fénelon by Mr Jules Janin. Illustrated edition. Paris, Ernest Bourdin, [1840 (1841 indicated on the preserved spine)]. In-4°, 459 pp. Brown half-maroquin with corners, spine with 5 faux-nerfs richly decorated, gilt title, gilt fillet on the covers, gilt head, cover and spine preserved. (Stroubants). This copy, richly illustrated with a frontispiece and engravings both within the text and as inserts, contains all 24 plates engraved in red after MARILLIER for the DETERVILLE edition of 1796, as well as a reproduction of the first page of FENELON’s manuscript, and, bound at the end, the title page of the 24 plates (Paris, Quantin, 1888). Vicaire, III, 654–655. Neither Cohen nor Vicaire mention the publication of these 24 plates.
