Family Oratory with special indulgences granted by His Holiness Pope Pius IX. Paris, Armengaud, undated [c. 1870]. Two triptychs depicting biblical scenes and prayers. In a brown percaline slipcase, with the title and papal coat of arms gilded on the upper covers. Dimensions: 36/28 cm (when closed). 2 triptychs on thick, profiled Bristol board, with two double-sided engravings on the side flaps, a large central engraving (including designs from Rubens’ triptychs), and a lower flap adorned with a devotional text, the coat of arms and a portrait of the Holy Father, by the most distinguished artists of France and Belgium: LAGYE, GÉRARD, MANCHE, LACHARLERIE, CATENACCI, CABASSON, HÉBERT and PANNEMAKER; the flaps fasten with a brass cross and can be hung by two upper rings. Some foxing, sun damage and small tears to the slipcase.
