Description
David and Solomon. Translated by Lemaistre de Sacy. [DECARIS (Albert)]. Paris, Les cent bibliophiles, 1933. In-4°, 241 pp., 6 ff. 95 engravings, including 54 out-of-text engravings by Albert Decaris. Black Jansenist morocco, spine with 4 false raised bands, gilt title, bevelled boards at the centres of the cuts, five-fold blind-stamped border on the reverse side of the board, brown tabis endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine preserved, slipcase edged with black morocco. (René Aussourd). Printed in a run of 130 copies on Arches vélin paper; no. 7 printed for Mr Pierre GUERQUIN (1880–1967). He was the son-in-law of Henri BERALDI. A bibliophile like his father-in-law, Jacques JAUJARD described his library in 1943 as ‘that of one of the most eminent bibliophiles of our time’. It was partially looted by the Germans in 1940. This copy is enhanced by an original signed wash drawing, ‘The Judgement of Solomon’, which does not appear in the book itself. A very fine copy, beautifully bound by René AUSSOURD (1884–1966), nephew of Charles MEUNIER, who was active from 1912 to 1960.
