Description
MAC ORLAN (Pierre). [GROSZ (Georges)]. Port d’Eaux-Mortes. Paris, Au Sans Pareil, 1926. In-8°, 80 pp. Navy blue half-maroquin with a band, long spine, gilt title, gilt fillets on the covers, gilt head, cover and spine in good condition, matching slipcase edged with blue morocco. (Attributed to C. Dreneau). Narrative illustrated with 8 original lithographs by Georges GROSZ. First edition printed in a run of 1,220 copies; this is no. 13 of 20 on vellum, with a set of engravings on Chinese and old Japanese paper, reserved for the Friends of Le Sans Pareil and printed in their name, in this case for Pierre LEGRAIN (1889–1929), the renowned sculptor, draughtsman, decorator and bookbinder who left his mark on the art world. A very fine copy, on large-format paper, presumably perfectly prepared by Constant DRENEAU. Working independently after 1949, Constant DRENEAU (1907–1972) carried out commissions for interior designers, notably Pierre-Lucien MARTIN, for whom he executed his designs.
