Description
MISTRAL (Frédéric). [BRAYER (Yves)]. In Provence. Frédéric Mistral recounts his childhood in Provence, accompanied by original lithographs by Yves Brayer, who brings the region to life for us. Paris, Pierre de Tartas, 1983. Folio volume of 63 pp. Loose-leaf, colour-illustrated cover featuring two lithographs, sky-blue cloth slipcase, gilt title on the spine, the artist’s signature reproduced in red on the upper front cover, salmon-coloured suede-like lining. The set of plates in a sky-blue folder, with a reproduction of the artist’s signature in red. Illustrations within the text and 10 double-page colour plates as inserts. Printed in a run of just over 510 copies; this is no. 53 of 110 on pearlescent Japon paper, with the set of 8 double-sheets in colour—4 of which are signed by the artist—and a print on Imperial Japon paper of the 14 additional drawings. The plate catalogue, contained in a folder bearing the artist’s stamp, includes two unpublished double plates: one depicting a walker amidst wheat fields, the other a view of Avignon from the Île de la Barthelasse. This copy is signed by the artist and the publisher, and bears the bailiff’s stamp. Traces of sun damage and soiling on the folder containing the plates. A good copy.
