Publisher’s binding in fawn sheepskin, decorated in black and gold; spine with four false raised bands; title and head gilded; black cloth slipcases edged with fawn sheepskin. Chiselled engravings by DECARIS, preface by André MAUROIS. Copy no. CX on Van Gelder Dutch vellum, with a fine original drawing in grey pencil, signed, depicting a Roman legionary, and two sets of illustrations printed on Madagascar and Pur Fil paper.
