CHIFLET (Jean-Jacques). Vesontio civitas imperialis libera, metropolis of the Sequani, illustrated with numerous and by no means ordinary monuments of sacred and profane history, and divided into two parts. Lyon, Claude Cayne, 1618. 2 parts in one volume, small quarto, [16] ff., 264, [7] pp.; 328, [14] pp. Title engraved by LOISY, engravings in the text and 3 folding plates at the end. Fawn-coloured sheepskin with root-stained edges, long decorated spine, front and back covers in red morocco, gilt fillet on the edges, red edges. (Early 19th-century binding). Sent by the author: ‘To my cousin Mr Chevannay des Danielz, from the author. Chifflet’; followed by a gift inscription: ‘To Mr Duban, descendant of Mr Chevannay des Danielz, from his grateful nephew. A. V.” Handwritten bookplate by Jean-Baptiste BARIOD. A few annotations in the margins. Some wear to the leather, with a small reinforcement formerly applied to the attachment of the map of Besançon. A fine family dedication from the author.
