MARQUISET (Armand). Historical Statistics of the District of Dole. Besançon, Charles Deis, 1841–1842. 2 vols. in-8°, comprising XI, 1 bl., 518, [1] pp.; 532 pp., [2] ff. Green half-maroquin with a long grain, smooth spine with decoration, title and volume numbers gilded, speckled edges (contemporary binding). Frontispiece and 26 lithographs as separate plates, as per the bookbinder’s instructions; numerous fold-out tables as separate plates showing the status of the various municipalities. From the library of Julien FEUVRIER, with his engraved bookplate. The archivist and curator of Dole has added annotations to Volume I. Enriched with two autograph letters signed by Edmond COULEURU, Public Prosecutor at Pontarlier, dated 27 January and 3 July 1907, addressed to ‘Monsieur’ [MARQUISET]. 4 pp. and 2 pp. ¼ in-8°. Edmond COULEURU is the author of *Au Pays de l’Absinthe*, published in 1908. In his first letter, he requests information concerning Jacques-Antoine CORDIENNE, of Jussey, born in 1758, parish priest of Montbéliard, ‘and subsequently a very active revolutionary agent in the same town ’ and Alexis-Joseph COEDENNE, also from Jussey, born in 1796, a lawyer in Dole and curator of a natural history museum. He seeks details regarding their family relationship and any documents concerning them, as well as information on an intervention by the Archbishop of Besançon, LE COZ, in support of the botanist, and the reasons that led the latter to settle in Dole. He highlights, amongst the possessions he left behind, an old book bearing his autograph signature. The letter is annotated in red ink by MARQUISET. In his second letter, he requests information on the 1st Battalion of Dole, which took part in the capture of Montbéliard by Bernard de Saintes in 1793 Some foxing, slight rubbing to the binding.
