Description
21- [DEFOE (Daniel)] – [Educational maps]. ‘The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe’. Paris: Les Marchands de Nouveautés, n.d. [c. 1810]. Contemporary wooden and cardboard box (approx. 13 × 8 cm), the lid decorated with a printed title and an engraved and coloured vignette depicting Robinson Crusoe. A set of educational cards engraved on wood and enhanced with colour, each depicting a scene from the story accompanied by a printed text recounting the episode. 24 cards preserved, 23 of which are numbered from 1 to 23; the last bears the title ‘The Burning of an Idol’. Heavy paper mounted on cardboard; three are missing their cardboard backing. Box heavily tarnished, scuffed and worn, with a few imperfections; cards in generally satisfactory to good condition, with fine colour highlights.
