40- MARCELLUS (Count Marie-Louis-Auguste): ‘Sacred Odes, Idylls, and Miscellaneous Poems’. Paris: Ladvocat, Bookseller. Printed by Firmin Didot. 1825. In-16. Dedicatory epistle to King Louis XVIII. Romantic binding in the style of Thouvenin. Full glazed calfskin (some scuffing). Gilt fillet and lace border on the covers with a fleur-de-lis in a diamond-shaped medallion at the centre. Gilt roulette on the inside of the covers. Spine with false raised bands decorated with gilt and ‘cold’ motifs (partly sun-faded). Marbled endpapers and edges. Satisfactory condition overall. FIRST EDITION, enhanced by two handwritten lines on the half-title page reading ‘presented by the author to his friend’s dear nephew’.
