Paris: Printed by the Author, 1789–1790. 4 volumes in-8 (as is often the case, the last two volumes on Italian theatre are missing). Frontispiece portrait of the author by Hyacinthe RIGAUD in the first volume, which notably contains accounts of his travels in Flanders, Holland, Lapland, Poland and Germany; Illustrations by MOREAU LE JEUNE and MARILLIER. Full marbled calfskin binding of the period (some scuffing and losses). Smooth spines decorated ‘à la grotesque’ with title and volume number labels (leather missing from volumes 1 and 4). Satisfactory condition overall. FIRST EDITION of this illustrated work (H. Cohen, 195).
