Description
114- 18th-century manuscript entitled ‘Letters to the Parish Priest concerning his dialogue with his bishop on the marriage of Protestants’. Paris, 1777. In-8, 348 pages written in brown ink (345 hand-numbered pages). Title page in capital letters with a hand-drawn fleur-de-lis imitating a typographic composition. Footnotes on several pages and a table at the end. Full contemporary calfskin. Triple gilt fillet framing the covers. Spined back with title label. Good condition. An 18th-century manuscript on religious controversy concerning the issue of marriages and the civil status of Protestants in France. The text is likely to be related to the writings of Louis Guidi on this subject, published from 1775 onwards. This manuscript, which does not appear to have been published in print, could be either an unpublished text or a contemporary copy of a work not identified in standard bibliographies. EXTREMELY RARE.
