One corner trimmed, some scuffing; ‘Pastoral Instruction by His Grace the Bishop of Le Puy on Heresy: to serve as a sequel to that by the same Prelate on the so-called Philosophy of Modern Unbelievers. ’ At Le Puy, published by Clet, Printer to His Grace the Bishop; in Lyon, by Deville; in Paris, by L. A combination of two rare FIRST EDITIONS forming an interesting collection on the religious and philosophical controversy of the 18th century. Le Franc de Pompignan, Bishop of Le Puy, sets out his argument against Enlightenment philosophy and the doctrines he considers heretical. The first treatise, published in 1763, provoked, in particular, satirical responses from Voltaire.
