Description
215- [MOQUIN-TANDON] - MANUSCRIPT entitled ‘Mémoires pour servir à l'Histoire de la Ville Royale de Gignac et de ses Environs’ (preface dated Gignac, 2 September 1832). 4 parts and a supplement in 2 in-8 volumes. 16 pages (half-title, title page, preface and foreword) and 292 numbered pages in Volume I, plus half-title and title page, and 279 numbered pages in Volume 2 (a few blank pages are included in the pagination, notably at the end of Volume 2). Text carefully handwritten in brown ink on ruled paper. Volume 2 contains 5 pasted-in vignettes, including an original drawing (Sénibélét’s helmets). Contemporary half-basane leather binding. Spine with faux raised bands, decorated using both ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ stamping (one spine has been re-glued). Marbled covers, endpapers and edges. Interior well preserved. A handwritten page and a half inserted at the beginning of the first volume states that this work, copied from an old manuscript by Mr Moquin-Tandon, is probably the work of Chevalier DE LAURÈS, written in 1770. A remarkable historical manuscript.
