225- VAUX-DE-CERNAY (Pierre de): ‘History of the Albigensians, and the Deeds of the Noble Simon de Monfort. ’ In Toulouse, by Arnaud & Iaques Colomies, Brothers, Sworn Printers of the University, 1568. In-12 (18 x 13.5 cm). 1 unnumbered folio (title page and extract from the privilege), 6 folios numbered 1 to 3 (epistle to Henri de Valois), 2 folios numbered 1 and 2 (continuation of the epistle and conclusion), 1 unnumbered folio (sonnet to Mr Sorbin), 170 folios numbered 4 to 172, 4 pages of warnings and errata, 13 final pages (table of contents and ‘printed’ notice). Initial letters. The first endpaper is missing. The title page is cut at the bottom. A few minor, insignificant light stains. Contemporary binding entirely mouldy (inactive mould that has not affected the paper). Ribbed spine with title label (leather missing from the lower part). Ex-libris from the D’AIGREFEUILLE library (Historian of Montpellier). A sturdy volume despite the defects; the interior is in satisfactory condition overall. EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION of this work on the Albigensian Crusade, translated into French by Arnaud Sorbin de Sainte-Foy.
