264 – COLLECTION OF PLATES from PANCKOUCKE’s *Encyclopédie méthodique* (late 18th century). Large quarto (32 x 25 cm) containing 223 plates on Astronomy, Military Science, Mathematics, Natural History, Heraldry, Horse Riding, Fencing, etc. … Some of the compositions bear witness to an iconographic connection with the famous plates from Diderot and d’Alembert’s Encyclopédie, as Panckoucke reproduced, reduced and recomposed a considerable portion of this exceptional body of engravings. The plates of the *Méthodique*, engraved notably under the direction of Jacques-Renaud BÉNARD, thus constitute one of the major continuations of the Encyclopaedic enterprise of the Enlightenment. A few old traces of damp. Contemporary cardboard binding, worn, spine heavily damaged. A mismatched set of 223 plates, not arranged in continuous series. One plate has a paper loss; most are in good condition.
