498- MILLY (Nicolas Christiern de Thy, Count of): ‘The Art of Porcelain, dedicated to the King’. Printed by L.F. Delatour, 1771. Folio (45 x 29 cm). Title page engraved by N. Ransonnette. Dedicatory epistle to the King. 7 plates, 2 of which are folded. Bound with – LE VIEIL (Pierre): ‘The Art of Glass Painting and Glassmaking’ Delatour 1774. 13 plates. Bound with – DUHAMEL DU MONCEAU (Henri-Louis): ‘L’Art du Potier de Terre’ (The Art of the Earthenware Potter), Delatour, 1773. 17 plates. Bound with – ‘L’Art de faire les pipes à fumer le tabac’ (The Art of Making Tobacco Pipes), Delatour, 1771. 11 plates. A few pages discoloured. Minor, long-standing signs of worm damage to the edges of a few pages, not serious. Full marbled calfskin of the period (scuffs and restorations). Ribbed spine decorated with floral motifs and title labels (caps and clamps restored). Gilded roulette on the inside of the covers. Restored hinges. Ex-libris bearing a coat of arms. Satisfactory condition overall. An exceptional set of four FIRST EDITIONS from the ‘Descriptions des Arts et Métiers’ collection, published under the auspices of the Royal Academy of Sciences.
