Main types of clothing and adornment, compared with those found within the home throughout the ages and amongst all peoples, with numerous details on furniture, weapons, everyday objects, means of transport, etc. …” Paris: Librairie de Firmin-Didot et Cie, 1888. 6 folio volumes (complete – one volume of text and 5 volumes of plates). 500 plates, including 300 in colour with gold and silver metallic highlights and 200 in monochrome. A few foxing spots (more pronounced in the text volume). Most of the plates have retained their full lustre. Original black cardboard binding. Spine with decorative faux raised bands. Satisfactory condition overall. A RARE FIRST EDITION, which is one of the most sumptuous French chromolithographic productions of the 19th century.
