514- VINCI (Leonardo de): Manuscripts A, B, C and D of the Institut de France. Grenoble, Roissard, 1960–1972. A complete set of 9 volumes, comprising volumes of text, printed in Italian with a French translation opposite, and facsimiles: Manuscript A in 3 volumes, one of which is a facsimile; Manuscript B in 2 volumes, one of which is a facsimile; and a box set of Manuscripts C and D in 4 volumes (a booklet of facsimiles of D (in the Manuscript D slipcase) and a volume of facsimiles of C in the box set). Copy no. 34/474 on pure Lafuma rag paper from the Papeteries de Navarre for Manuscript A and no. 37/974 for Manuscripts B, C and D. The nine volumes are contained in five of the publisher’s slipcases or cardboard cases; eight volumes are in 8vo format, whilst the last, devoted to facsimiles of Manuscript C, is in 4to format. Ex-libris. The set is in good condition. A significant edition offering a faithful and complete reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s four famous scientific manuscripts held at the Institut de France, which bear witness to his research in fields as varied as mechanics, hydraulics, optics, architecture, mathematics and technology.
