522- DUPUY (Pierre), PITHOU (Pierre): ‘Traitez des Droits et Libertés de l’Église Gallicane’, published at the author’s own expense, 1731. 2 folio volumes (40 x 25 cm). Volume II notably contains ‘The Dream of the Orchard, which recounts the Dispute between the Cleric and the Knight’, with a full-page engraving at the beginning of the volume. Several pages have browned. Full contemporary sheepskin binding (some normal wear and scuffing; leather darkened in places). Ribbed spine lavishly decorated with scrolls, stars and floral motifs, featuring a title label and volume number label (bird-shaped metal fittings on the volume number labels). Gilded roulette framing the inside of the covers. Cracks at the joints; cap bands worn down. Satisfactory condition overall. An 18th-century edition featuring Pierre Pithou’s famous commentary on the liberties of the Gallican Church.
