Avec quelques notes sur un autre libelle dict Le Cathechisme des Jesuites. Avignon, I. Bramereau 1603. In-8° full contemporary vellum, 346 pp. 3 ff. First edition published in Avignon in 1603. The Jesuit Richeome argues here against two texts. "These defamatory libels should be thrown out of their bushes like fierce and cruel beasts". Richeome's arguments are served up in a truculent and colourful style; far from dry reasoning, they are part of the spiritual, devout and baroque literature of the 16th century. In his day, he was regarded as the "French Cicero". Good condition.
