BARRE (Joseph). GENERAL HISTORY OF GERMANY. Paris, Delespine and Herissant, 1748. 10 tomes in 11 volumes, quarto, marbled calf, ornate ribbed spine, red edges. (contemporary binding) FIRST EDITION, providing a complete history of Germany from the Year of Rome 648 to 1740. It is illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Le Bas after Caze, a portrait of Frederick Augustus III engraved by Daullé after Silvestre, 3 fold-out maps, 11 title vignettes engraved by Le Bas after Eisen, and numerous vignettes and tailpieces. Minor flaws. Provenance: Gabriel Cramer (armorial bookplate), a mathematician from Geneva (1704–1752).
