In-8, marbled sheepskin, plain decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Second edition, revised, corrected and expanded to include a table of contents, with a letter from Mr Burke to his translator. Stamp on the title page and in the margins of a few pages; faint foxing. Included: - PAINE (Thomas). THE RIGHTS OF MAN, or a reply to Mr Burke’s work against the French Revolution. Hamburg, published by the Herold brothers, 1791. 8vo, contemporary cardboard binding. Translated from the English based on the first edition. The work is dedicated to Washington; Paine responds to Burke’s attacks and defends the French Constitution, providing a historical account of the Revolution and reproducing and commenting on the Declaration of the Rights of Man.
