[COTOLENDI (Charles)]. ARLIQUINIANA, OR THE WITTICISMS: amusing and entertaining anecdotes gathered from Harlequin’s conversations. Paris, Delaulne & Brunet, 1694. In-12, [58]-354-[12] pages, vellum with overcover, blue bindings (contemporary binding). First edition; it is adorned with a fine engraved frontispiece depicting Arlequin. The Arlequin whose witticisms Cotolendi records was the famous Dominique Biancoletti, an artist of the Italian commedia dell’arte. With the title label reattached and the spine repaired, this copy is one of the few printed on Holland paper. (Barbier I, 275) (Gay I, 268).
