No place or publisher, printed in the year of our Saviour 1599. In-8, [16]-794-[36] pages, fawn calfskin, plain spine with decoration, red edges (18th-century binding). A historian born in Villeneuve-de-Berg around 1450, Jean de Serres, brother of Olivier, studied in Lausanne and settled there after the St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre. His memoirs form a collection of memorable events that took place in France under Henry II, Francis II, Henry III and Henry IV, covering the period from 1547 to 1592. Following this publication, he was appointed Historiographer of France by Henry IV.
