JAPAN, SHIBAYAMA – MEIJI period (1868–1912) A twenty-three-ribbed fan made of ivory (Elephantidae spp.) with a hira maki-e decoration in gold and silver lacquer and Shibayama-style mother-of-pearl inlays depicting butterflies amongst chrysanthemums and autumn flowers on one side, and a crane amongst thorns, bamboo and plum trees on the other. Filigree silver hanging ring. Height: 30 cm. Weight: 297 g. *Pre-Convention ivory specimen (I/A), dating from before 1 July 1947 and therefore compliant with Regulation (EC) No 338/97 of 9 December 1996, Article 2-Wmc, and predating 1 July 1975 and therefore compliant with the French decrees of 4 May 2017 and January 2022.
