[THEVENEAU de MORANDE (Ch)]. CORRESPONDENCE OF MADAME GOURDAN DITE LA COMTESSE. London, by the famous Jean Nourse, 1784-1866. In-12 of [8]-205-[2] pages, half green morocco with corners, gilt binding. This collection of 162 letters addressed to the greatest "appareilleuse" of the 18th century had appeared a year earlier under the title Le Portefeuille de Madame Gourdan, with only 82 letters. Printed on Hollande, it is complete with a frontispiece depicting an overturned carriage with a woman trying to open the door and a facsimile of the handwriting (both on chine). In fine, the collection of songs for the use of Madame Gourdan's soup-makers. Part of the boards and the spine are faded. A good copy. (Pia, col. 273).
