De Neuville, Alphonse – Autograph letter, signed and dated 6 July 1879 – An autograph letter of 8 lines, signed and dated 6 July 1879. ‘I am leaving Néris on Tuesday and going to Aix-les-Bains (Savoie) [...] I shall see my publisher whilst passing through Lyon; I absolutely must show him some drawings...’ The original envelope is enclosed, but the stamp has been cut out. The artist, De Neuvile (Deneuville) 1835–1885, was a leading French academic painter and a pupil of Delacroix. He frequently painted scenes of war and illustrated numerous works, such as *Le Tour du Monde* and novels by Jules Verne.
