The period covered runs from 1572, the year of the St Bartholomew's Day massacre, to 1589. The work is a valuable record of the context of the Wars of Religion. It was designed and printed by Jean Bureau, a printer from Saumur, who set up shop for the occasion at the Château de La Forêt sur Sèvre, the Mornay fiefdom.
