MILN (James) – Excavations at Carnac (Morbihan): Les Bossenno and Mont-Saint-Michel – Paris; Didier et Cie, J. Claye et Cie, 1877 – 1 volume, In-4° – 1 stain on the upper edge – Frontispiece, 1 map, 1 fold-out plan, and 54 plates, 10 of which are chromolithographs – Contemporary chocolate-coloured half-shagreen binding – Spined with raised bands, decorated and gilt-lettered – Edges speckled with brown – A fine copy of the first edition. The first excavations at Carnac were carried out by James Miln, a Scottish archaeologist who discovered the Carnac site in 1873. He founded the Carnac Museum, which became the James Miln-Zacharie Le Rouzic Museum of Prehistory (named after his assistant), and was also vice-president of the Morbihan Philomatic Society (1880) and of the French Archaeological Society.
