NECKER (Jacques) – Report to the King by Mr Necker, Director-General of Finance. January 1781 – Paris; Royal Printing Office, 1781 – 1 volume, small In-4°, paperback, untrimmed and without a cover - 1 small watermark on the first 4 leaves - 1 fold-out table (Revenues transferred to the Royal Treasury) and 2 separate fold-out maps: Map of Salt Taxes and Map of Customs Duties, in period colours - A fine copy of the second edition, following that of the King’s Cabinet, which was printed in a small run and not made available for sale. Necker’s most famous work, in which, in his desire to introduce transparency into the workings of the State, he had the audacity to describe the principles and mechanisms of its administration and to set out the state of public finances.
