Description
GIVRÉ (François de) & FLAMENT (Albert) – Dinard – Paris; Maquet, 1914 – 1 folio volume comprising 1 text section by Flament of 16 pages bound with a cord under a plain cover, and 40 plates (including 4 double-page plates) of drawings engraved in black and colour by Givré, the whole housed in a colour-illustrated hardback publisher’s slipcase (covers detached, cloth spine largely detached, laces missing) - A few marginal tears with no loss of material; interior in good overall condition - Numbered first edition (no. 59 of a total print run of 300) with the artist’s autograph signature on the colophon. De Givré and Flament met in Dinard in the late 1910s, whilst high society life was in full swing at the seaside resort. De Givré, a regular at parties, produced numerous sketches of the personalities of the time. Period costumes and dresses twirl and intertwine in a festive and colourful atmosphere. He decided to compile them into an album accompanied by Flament’s texts.
