A military monument erected to the glory of France through public subscription. Bauvais, who was in charge of the publication, commissioned memoirs from numerous military officers to reconstruct, through eyewitness accounts, the precise history of the battles from Year I of the Republic (1792) up to 1815. Volumes I to XXIV recount the history of various French military events, whilst volumes XXV to XXVI contain a list of errata and a collection of French military biographies known as the ‘Tables du temple de la Gloire’. The volume ‘Couronne poétique’ (Volume XXVII, the final volume) contains songs and poems dedicated to the Fatherland and to courage.
