A L.A.S. to Henry de Pène, Valognes, 12 October 1879. 1 pp. in-8 format with envelope Red ink on Never More headed paper, Barbey's motto printed in red ink for his mail (important fold which broke the sheet, restored with adhesive paper).
Addressed to Henry de Pène, 19th-century French journalist and novelist, telling him about his salary at the Petit-Journal. "I accept at three hundred francs a month. I had dreamed of four hundred, but I accept, happy and glorious to be in the same newspaper as you [...]".
Attached to this letter is a stamped envelope with a postmark. [Barbey d'Aurevilly Jules].
A P.S. from his devoted companion, Louise Read (1845-1928). To M. Couët, Paris 12 November 1916. 1 pp. In-12. About the "dreadful war" and her cats, which she loved so much.
