Description
Emile DRAIN (1890-1966). The "Napoleon of the screen" who played the Emperor for Sacha Guitry... a great theatre performer who was also an author and poet. Passive correspondence. Lot of several L.A.S., sometimes accompanied by their envelopes with address and stamps, received by Emile DRAIN of the Comédie française, including some letters partly typescript on headed paper, in connection with the theatre and publishing. -2 L.A.S. from Henri Gaubert, still a young author in the second half of the 20th century, who wrote about Napoleon in particular, dated 1949. Formats in-12 and in-4, 4 pp. -2 large typewritten and signed letters on the letterhead of the Association des Ecrivains combattants de 1914 à 1918. 2 sheets, dated June 1924, with addressed and stamped envelope (stamped for the 1924 Paris Olympic Games). -A L.A.S. from the Secretary General of the Théatre de l'Odéon, 5 October 1916, on letterhead of the Théatre National de l'Odéon. 1 ff. folded, with its stamped addressed envelope. During the War, Emile Drain was a corporal in the General Staff, based in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine. - A large signed typescript letterhead, probably during or shortly after the 14-18 War, from the OEuvre Française & Populaire des Trente ans de Théatre (Paris). 1 pp. some folds and soiling. -A large typescript letter signed by the editor G; de Pawlowski, on a letterhead printed in red and black, from the Comoedia, a daily illustrated literary and art criticism journal, with its addressed and stamped envelope. 1 page, Paris, 25 January 1911.
