Description
LOUIS XIII. MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. LEGAL ACT. NORMANDY. PAYS DE CAUX.
LOUIS XIII "by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre...".
Fine manuscript on vellum, ca 1630.
Large quire of four folded sheets of vellum, sewn together, i.e. 8 ff. in-4 format (ca 30 x 33 cm), ruled in ink. Approximately 22 lines per page. With signatures or initials of parties and witnesses at the end of the text.
Complete and well-preserved manuscript, neat cursive in sepia ink, typical of legal acts or notarial minutes of the seventeenth century.
"Seen and ordered by our said court, the execution of the agreement between the parties...". Internal copy or register, intended for the archives or the beneficiary.
A type of royal decree issued by the King's Council or a local chamber. After the troubles of the Wars of Religion, there was a great deal of activity to confirm privileges and remit debts or offices, which led to several deeds of this type. The contents suggest a deed of transaction or agreement with detailed clauses and references to places. Mention is made of a bailiff, lands or rights, the parties involved and the towns of Caumont, Yvetot, Montreuil or Foucarmont, all in Normandy. "to all those who will see these letters, salut. Sçavoir faisons que, vu[e] la cause de (...) différend pendant entre Jacques Dubal, sieur de Lograis, d'une part, et plusieurs autres parties habitant[s] et propriétaires des domaines de Baill[iage] (...) notre très cher et féal [officier] le sieur de Beaumanoir, tenant le siège présidial de...".
Slight traces of use and vellum a little creased but very well preserved document.
