Organised by the British Government against the Spanish in America, Admiral Anson's expedition set out from St Helena, sailed to Madeira and then crossed the Atlantic to Brazil... After rounding the southern continent, the ships sailed to the Mariana Islands, Canton and then returned via Cape Town. Despite many losses, the voyage proved to be extremely important from a scientific point of view, thanks to the wealth of nautical and natural observations made, in particular the value of citrus fruits in the fight against scurvy.
