7 books in 1 small folio (33 x 22.5 cm), (14) ff, 381-(1) pp. contemporary ivory soft vellum, smooth spine with handwritten title (vellum slightly tarnished and shrunken, corners dulled, title leaf of book I replaced by a facsimile, some quires out of order, very slight foxing, possibly rebacked).
First edition, in its contemporary binding, complete with figures, some enhanced in colour.
The very first work on ornithology.
A copy of the Corrozet issue (the privilege was shared between Corrozet and Cavellat) consisting of seven parts in continuous pagination, each with its own title page.
Illustrated with 158 large in-text black woodcuts by Pierre Goudet (or Gourdelle), including two comparative figures of human skeletons and birds and figures of numerous bird species. The bird figures are captioned in Greek.
Provenance: Modern bookplate with motto "On abus du vrai" by Antoine Mouradian, with bird and fish, on the upper flyleaf.
