Fort in-8 square, (12) ff, 678 pp, (10) ff, 70 plates. Contemporary scraped calf, spine ribbed and decorated with stippling, title gilt, spotted edges (jaws cracked, headbands worn, corners rubbed, some leaves browned).
Only edition.
The illustration consists of 70 fine numbered copper engravings by de Mallery after Adriaen Collaert in Antwerp, including heart-shaped emblems; in-text vignettes, an engraved wood mark in fine and an engraved title-frontispiece depicting a Virgin triumphing over Evil with multiple symbols.
A book of devotional emblems, distinguished at the time from books of secular emblems, on the Cross of Christ, by the Spanish Jesuit Bivero (1572-1656), chaplain to the Spanish court in Brussels.
