Contemporary mottled tan basane, spine ribbed, gilt title and tomaison, decorated with gilt fleurons and fillets, spotted edges (corners dulled, small epidermis on the boards, a few leaves slightly browned).
A good copy of this polemical work against Protestants by David-Auguste de Brueys (1640-1723), a former minister who converted to Catholicism under the influence of Bossuet and became a parish priest in Montpellier.
This critique, based on the history of the troubles in the Cévennes and an acerbic portrayal of religious fanaticism, first appeared in 1692; our edition is an addition to that first edition.
