The gardens of Betz, built by Madame Brignolé, Princess of Monaco and mistress of the Prince de Condé, between 1780 and 1789, formed a "park with fabriques" or "desert", created in part thanks to Hubert Robert and the Duc d'Harcourt. Cerutti visited them in 1785 and composed this poem as an entertainment, recounting a walk during which the "fabriques" and their features are described. This is the most detailed and complete account of this important English garden, which was abandoned during the Revolution. Although intended to remain private, the poem was finally published shortly before the author's death. With numerous important footnotes on the gardens. Marked "Second Edition", although printed in January 1792, like the first.
