PIETRO DE CRESCENZI. Piero Crescientio de agricultura vulgare. [Colophon]: Impessun Venetiis die nonomésis lulii anno dni M.D.XIX. (1519). In-8, (1)-235-(6) ff. 19th century carmine morocco, spine with 3 double ribbed bands, title, place and date gilt, cold decoration on the boxes, framed in the style of Duseuil in cold and gilt on the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, double cold fillet bordering the inside covers (corners, spines and headpieces slightly rubbed, some leaves browned). A fine copy bound in very fine morocco signed Leighton, Brewer street. Famous writings on agriculture by Pietro de Crescenzi or Pierre de Crescens (Bologna 1230-ca 1320), a writer and magistrate considered to be the father of modern agronomic literature. Gothic lettering on title page, woodcut depicting Justice on recto and large woodcut taken from Alexander Grammaticus' Doctrinale (1513) on verso; around 30 small woodcuts in text, depicting rural scenes (some repeated); ornate initials. A fine post-incunabula Venetian reprint of Pierre de Crescens' famous text.
