Description
DEZALLIER D'ARGENVILLE.
Abrégé de la vie des plus fameux peintres, avec leurs portraits gravés en taille-douce, les indications de leurs principaux ouvrages, quelques réflexions sur leurs caractères...
Paris, de Bure, 1745-1752.
3 volumes large in-4. Contemporary speckled fawn calf, ribbed spine, fawn title and endpapers on volumes I and II, red and havana on volume III, ornate boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, red edges (edges and corners slightly rubbed, light scattered brown spots).
The illustration consists of a copper-engraved frontispiece by Fessard after Latouche and around 500 copper-engraved in-text portraits of painters by Italian, Spanish, German, Flemish, English and French artists, some of them expressive and finely executed, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and Primaticcio.
