In Roma, per Pier' Ant.[onio] Facciotti, 1638. Small in-4, (8) ff (including engraved title and title-frontispiece), 520-(28) pp, 44 engravings. Contemporary soft ivory vellum, handwritten title on spine (vellum soiled, laces missing, quires out of order, some leaves slightly browned, marginal defects including dampstaining and soiling, small tear affecting engraving 387). First Italian edition, translated by Lodovico Aureli; A 17th-century treatise on floriculture, considered a masterpiece of Baroque chalcography and garden design. Sought-after for its rich illustrations, which reproduce exactly the engravings of the Latin edition of 1633. Only one entry in the CCFr (BnF). By the Jesuit Giovanni Battista Ferrari, who was in charge of Francesco Barberini's gardens in Rome. The work is dedicated to him because of the funding provided by the Barberinis, who supported his work. With 46 black copperplate figures by Johann Friedrich Greuter and Claude Mellan based on drawings by Andrea Sacchi, Guido Reni, Pietro da Cortona and Anna Maria Vaiani.
