The fine line drawings float between neo-classicism and Romanticism à la Füssli. Flaxman (1755-1826) was a famous English sculptor and draughtsman who gained great renown in Rome between 1787 and 1794 with his neo-classical illustrations of the works of Homer, Aeschylus and Dante, first printed in 1793 and then published.
