Large and small folio, (15) ff, CCCXLVI chapters, unpaginated, 517 black woodcuts. Stained vellum over contemporary finely cold-stamped woodcuts, spine ribbed, traces of metal clasps (vellum soiled, clasps missing, title missing and reproduced recto and verso on stained laid paper).
The illustrations consist of a full-length portrait of the author on the verso of the title and 517 black woodcuts, most of them botanical, 515 of which are full-page (4 portraits in total, including 3 in bust form in fine).
Beautiful gothic Basel edition by Isingrin.
Stamped H A F on the upper cover, framed with floral motifs and medallion portraits of the humanists.
A copy in which some of the engravings are watercoloured, sometimes rather simply.
