Descriptive work for the installation of the building sites [...] Installation used for the construction of the large jetty off the Bassin Napoléon (Port of Marseille). Plates. Marseille, (F. Canquoin), 1861. Oblong folio (41 x 51 cm), LV plates. Contemporary fawn half-chagrin, spine ribbed, gilt authors and title, cover preserved (edges and corners slightly rubbed but a fine copy, still fresh). Invaluable for 19th-century French technical and industrial history. Hardly ever found in albums, nor complete. One generally finds only the text with the date of 1860 (sometimes indicated 1861 at the same time), printed by Barile. No reference to the album currently in the CCFr. Contains 55 large chromolithographic plates after Cappeau by Canquoin, illustrating the stages of the maritime hydraulic works carried out for the construction of the large jetty in the port of Marseille, executed by Dussaud frères. In particular, it shows the quarries on the Frioul islands, the Marseilles roadstead, the quarrying of natural blocks and the production of artificial blocks. PORT CONSTRUCTION SITES.
