ENGRAVINGS. BAROQUE. TEMPESTA, Antonio. Romanorum et Batavorum Societas (Italy), 1611. In-4 oblong. Contemporary soft vellum, smooth spine (leaves detached, vellum shrinkage, soiling to vellum, some scattered spotting, oxidised edges). 35 copper engravings in black. Title engraved in tondo. No copy in the CCFr. Only 3 copies in the WorldCat. Engraved suite illustrating the Batavian revolt against the Roman Empire in the 1st century AD. Tempesta (1555-1630) was an Italian painter and engraver of the Florentine Baroque school. The scenes are inspired by Otto Van Veen, the Flemish Mannerist painter and art theorist (1556-1629), who was Rubens' teacher.
